This file must be edited with the 'visudo' command.? The commands vipw and vigr also exist for the same reason. |

Peculiar lack of RHEL 5.8 service management documentation If I want to go to the "RHEL Documentation", I'm going to go to the "RHEL Documentation". OK, I lie, I'll Google it. HOLY SHIT FIRST HIT IS access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs. Oh look! There's ALL THE RedHat DOCUMENTATION. |

log into ec2 using SSH but sudo prompts for password Presumably you're using an AMI provided by Amazon? It should have a default password for that user. |

SSH session pauses mid datastream; resumes with a keypress Sleep status just means there's nothing to run, not that it's Stopped. It may be interesting to attach to the process with strace when that happens and observe where it's sleeping and what happens when you press a key. |

How to kill a process with a single command? Suggesting killall is VERY BAD ADVICE. It does very different things depending on which Unix/Linux you're on. |

Any reason NOT to run Linux in a VM all the time? Virtual machines on modern systems is not emulation. If anything the IO is emulated, but usually the drivers themselves are aware they are in a VM and there is little overhead. |
