comment Can tar discover the archive format when piping it in via wget?
@FaheemMitha New tar does not need uncompress flag. See askubuntu.com/a/107976/32792 for reference. And as I pointed out in my question: tar with tar xf myarchive.tar.gz. Or tar xf someotherarchive.tar.xz works. Piping them it in from wget is what causes trouble.

comment Can tar discover the archive format when piping it in via wget?
The point of the question was that tar xf does not need any uncompress flag, and I want to achive the exact same thing when piping an archive in from wget.

I still get: tar: Archive is compressed. Use -J option tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now when running wget -qO- http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/ogg/libogg-1.3.2.tar.xz | tar xf -

comment How to add a newline to the end of a file?
Feedback will come in forms of up- or downvotes, or you will be asked in comments to outline your answers/questions more, no point in asking for it in the answer's body. Keep it to the point, welcome to stackexchange!

Please add relevant parts of your link to your answer. Links can go down, answer should be able to stand on their own.

comment UEFI and Puppy Linux
Thanks for providing an answer. Please bear in mind that answers should stand on its own, which is why posting just a link is bad. Please put the relevant part here. Also if you have doubts if your approach answers the question, consider adding a comment to clarify the issue and then answer the question.

comment Why doesn't my supervisor daemon start on reboot?
@DravSloan Yes, this has resolved my issue. Can you please add your comment as an answer for me to upvote and accept? And bonus, if you could elaborate as to why the path misbehaves and is required for my setup to work.

comment How to keep dotfiles system-agnostic?
@RaphaelAhrens I want to avoid such a branch-based solution as it is prone to diverge.

The files in my case were /etc/php5/apache2/conf.d/20-midgard2.ini and /etc/php5/apache2/conf.d/midgard2.ini.

Then for some unknown reason it froze the terminal session to my Raspberry Pi while generating the report.

comment How to bind USB device under a static name?
Worked like a charm. One question: How to exit udevam? And it is important to note that my_uart creates the symlink under /dev/my_uart. I first wrote /dev/arduino the first time and it failed whilst arduino is sufficient.

Valid approach, but not as much eye candy as I would have liked.

comment How to run the terminal using keyboard shortcuts in Gnome 2?
This is not a direct answer to your question, but you may like some quick-starter app such as gnome-do. You can bind that to a shortcut, e.g. meta+space, and then start any application by typing its name. And since I also start a terminal often, all it takes for me is, alt+space+t+enter to start terminator. Yet it also starts any application without having to bind certain tools to specific keys.

Neat! In my case I had to press Alt + Backspace instead of Meta + Backspace.

comment How to repeat currently typed in parameter on bash console?
@Rush Do you mind pointing it out as an answer? It may not be directly what I asked, but then again, your solution is much more to the point of what I want. It deserves a token of acceptance.
