comment Throttle the download speed of wget or curl while downloading
I wonder if there's a generic way to throttle any running program, i.e. via setting an environment variable.

comment How to blacklist a correct bad RAM sector according to MemTest86+ error indication?
Now if I didn't have to copy that over by hand and instead hand it over to GRUB without retyping errors, that would be fantastic.

comment How to disable auto suspend when I close laptop lid?
it's definitely not on the wiki anymore, and I don't see a logind.conf article (short of the small section on that page).

comment How to disable auto suspend when I close laptop lid?
After changing HandleLidSwitch, how do I reload logind.conf on the fly? Nevermind, it's systemctl stop systemd-logind && systemctl start systemd-logind.

comment automount nfs: autofs timeout settings for unreliable servers - how to avoid hangup?
There also seem to be other options, like rsize=32768,wsize=32768,noatime as noted here: techrepublic.com/blog/opensource/…

So an example command for mounting remotehost:/data/ would be mount -t nfs -o bg,intr, hard remote:/data/ /tmp/data/?

comment What is the need for `fakeroot` command in linux
An example to elucidate the need for fakeroot would be fantastic. I can see the uses of fakeroot, but I don't see why people can't work around root permissions to the point that it's easier to fake it.

So I have /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh, but not /etc/acpi/handler.sh. Is this just something I fill out? Any more information regarding this?

Remounting works for me, how come this isn't accepted as an answer?

Anamnesis fits the job well. Very small codebase and easy to read, to boot.

Does tmux have a hook to copy the selection into the clipboard when in copy-mode?

comment Find a file in the path without “which”?
This is fairly useful. I didn't know I could split $PATH into its sub components and search each one with find

There's no way to even dump or query the various XTerm resources? Not cool :(

comment Automounting USB sticks on Debian
It might be better to mount the USB disk by it's UUID (using blkid or udevadm). You can count on that being consistent for a given USB device. I imagine pairing UUIDs with autofs somehow would make automounting look magical.
