What should I expect if I switch from Ubuntu to openSuse For the described "odd" behavior of su: su alone only gives you root privileges, the current environment and PWD stays the same. su - puts you in a fresh environment and into root's home directory. |

Tunnel traffic through another machine over ssh This question is also interesting in the context of using Tor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_(anonymity_network). Tor exit nodes can spy data, such as passwords, and can potentially perform man in the middle attacks. Therfore Tor users need a way for routing only part of the traffic through Tor. |

Setting up a family server Yes, backup is an other really important topic. In my opinion the most neglected topic by home users. |

Which steps I have to follow to configure Ubuntu server with Mac and Windows workstations? I see your edit. I happened to have pointed you to the right part of the documentation file. A "Primary Domain Controller" is a central instance that stores login information for Windows computers (IMHO). |

Setting up a family server @Axel: It could be his own kid, or his kid's friend. Because it's quite simple, it might be tempting just to try it. |
