I spend my professional time working with Linux server technologies.

I previously obtained an RHCE, and studied Computing and Statistics for an undergraduate degree and am currently working through a Medicinal Chemistry MSc.

Have made some minor contributions to some open-source projects on github; https://github.com/tolland

and maintain a terrible ranty, unresearched speculation blog on blogspot.co.uk; http://take-your-vitamins.blogspot.com/

None of this is fit for human consumption.

comment Which configuration option controls whether Nautilus “copies” or “moves” a file/folder on drag and drop for a remote target directory?
while I appreciate the effort. I don't think that's an answer. The help file suggests that it is not an end user configurable option to change remote file drag and drop behaviour.

fix Ctrl to Shift to force the "Move" rather than the "Copy"

comment Tools to dump entries from arbitrary sets of log files between 2 dates
err, not sure, seems like that. i just picked some random entry from messages on an example box. I guess if someone still has log entries for Feb 22 2011, then they are probably not looking after the logrotate properly, but its annoying to have to guess the year.

however the date format in these syslog files is retarded, it doesn't even have a year Feb 22 06:57:56 workstation001 kernel: [ 0.124272] ACPI: Interpreter enabled etc

yeah, a bash loop and sed did the trick for the initial purpose.

yes, I was looking for something client side. Though I have an idea which I have updated the question with.
