@user1129682: Most WMs are aware that there are multiple displays present. e.g. a tiling WM wouldn't stretch a single window across both of your monitors.

@jasonwryan For whatever reason, I failed to notice the link to muennich/urxvt-perls that your comment included. I realize this was over seven months ago, but: thanks! I still don't have a perfect solution for system-wide shortcuts, but this has proved to be an excellent addition!
