Can't you just log into the bridge server and ssh to your target server from there?

It looks like ldconfig reads an executable file and treats its contents as if it was a list of filenames. Running ldconfig with strace might give you an idea what the troublemaker is.

AFAIU, macros have to be executed with the $ macroname syntax..
