First experience with Linux in 2003. Saw someone else using Knoppix and was utterly enthralled. Later was sent a Dynabolic disk by a friend and was extremely excited by that. Sometime in 2004 or 2005 had my first experience with Ubuntu. Have tried out many, many other flavors of Linux since then but mostly stuck to Ubuntu where I had a choice.

However, the latest I view the shopping lens of Unity as a symptom that Ubuntu is heading in the wrong direction. I have begun to look into other distros again.

The birthdate I entered is farcical, as I prefer not to identify myself in any way online, but the age is in the ballpark.

comment How does Linux choose which application to open a file?
Correction: the shebang line is not a message to the kernel; it's a message to the shell.

As explained in Keith's answer, any wait command is completely unnecessary.

The guy who asked this probably isn't a shell expert, so it might be helpful if you provided some explanation for his learning. If you do, +1.

Can you add some detail to your answer? One sentence + a link is not considered a good answer around here.

Why don't you link to the instructions you found? That might improve the usefulness of your question for future visitors.

comment Series of question on ebuild scripting. Given original passage from devrel & questions
These sites, as Q&A rather than forums, are designed to have one question per post. One question can have multiple facets, but yours are clearly a series of different questions. To answer your question tho, there is no way to downvote comments. If you think it is inappropriate, you can of course flag it.

You should not have an entire series of questions in one post.

Hi Ben! Welcome to U&L. We like our answers here to have a good amount of detail. This answer is likely to get deleted or converted to a comment. If you have more to add, that would be great.

comment “Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:” after installing sublime from binaries
Does sublime have a GUI? If so, your problem is probably that root doesn't have access to your display. Try gksu or the like depending on your DE.

comment How can I tell bash valid tab-completions for arguments to my Python script
Which means it may be a good idea to wrap your Python script in a Bash script, letting the Bash script do as much argument handling/parsing as possible.
