I would file a bug report in its issue tracker: they put out a new version every week, and are quick to respond in general, I've found.

I don't know anything other than what it says at :help text-objects. I don't use that plugin, and would never even consider it if it interfered with such basic vim functionality.

+1 I think I have a file manager installed (pcmanfm maybe?), but I've never used it. So no, not a necessity. Not sure "luxury" is the right word either.
