Unix & Linux Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for users of Linux, FreeBSD and other Un*x-like operating systems.. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've been using gnome-shell since it was released. through website extensions.gnome.org I can do many to manager my gnome-shell extensions, downloading and installing a new extension for example. from where the question comes, that is, Why https://extensions.gnome.org/ can download resouces from remote server and even move them to specified directory? In my mind, writing a file in specified directory is a dangerous permission that is impossible to be supported by a web browser. but why https://extensions.gnome.org/ can achieve this? and how ?
