I had problems with grub after my installation + my hard drive was not showing up in the devices list when i chose a device to boot (not from setup but before startup). I have tried several methods to restore my grub like this one:

sudo os-prober

sudo mount /dev/sda2 /mnt (my mint installation)

sudo chroot /mnt

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda

I have ran in to this error:

Path '/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is impossible. Aborting.

Have tried several things on forums but none seem to work, any ideas? thx

Are you saying that your BIOS cannot see your hard drive during POST? (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power-on_self-test) If that's the case, then I suspect hardware failure. If your BIOS can see your hard drive, but grub cannot, then I recommend booting from a live CD to repair or reinstall. –  Nate from Kalamazoo Jun 17 '13 at 12:37
