This is a bit of a general question. I have just installed Mint Linux 14.1, root is ext4 and rest are NTFS (dual boot).
I'm using a laptop, and I have always suffered from that annoying hdd load/unload problem (load_cycle_count increasing rapidly). Maybe that says something about my hdd, also it's Samsung if that makes a difference.
I use W8 alongside Mint, and I noticed that on Mint my hdd makes more noise and it "feels" slow, like the whole system is just slower than Windows. I haven't used Linux for a long time maybe I just forgot that. So I'm wondering, does anyone has similar experiences or knowledge about this? is linux really slower with the hdd than Windows? would btrfs make a difference in speed?
