I am using Linux Mint 13, Cinnamon. I tried the solution offered at http://www.linuxandlife.com/2012/06/how-to-enable-session-saving-in-linux.html but it is not working. I was able to change the relevant setting as suggested at the link, but the session is not autosaved.
I was expecting the applications and the various windows that are open at the time of logging out or shutting down to be repopulated on re-logging in (something like hibernate and more actually). But that did not happen.
I use standard applications like Thunderbird, Firefox, Evince Document reader, Nemo, Texmaker, etc.
