I tried to update Fedora 17 to 18 from within yum using the directions on the fedora web site. When I rebooted I ended up in the CentOS installer screen. I am not sure how that happend but I can't seem to get out of it into even a basic shell.

EDIT: I managed to solve the problem by backing up the system and reinstalling it

Did you try removing the CentOS DVD from the optical drive? – Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Jan 22 '13 at 15:42
There was no CentOS dvd in the optical drive – Zachary K Jan 22 '13 at 15:49
Post the exact steps that you took for the yum upgrade prior to the CentOS installer screen. – midnightsteel Jan 22 '13 at 17:24
Which directions did you follow? FedUp, or the explicitly discouraged yum method? Another? – vonbrand Jan 22 '13 at 19:55
If you don't know what you did, there is little hope that we can help. Experts maybe, psychics definitely not. – vonbrand Jan 23 '13 at 20:09
