I'm trying to install a Linux distribution on my new setup, but after the first tries I now have Windows installed on a partition and a Linux Mint install on an extended partition that does not start, and does not provide a usefull information for me when it errors. Mint boots but it hangs on some memory errors that I cannot understand.

My configuration:

  • Processor: Intel Core i3 2120 @3.30GHz
  • Chipset: Intel Sandy Bridge
  • Graphic Interface: PCI-Express

My actions so far:

  • 3 X installed Ubuntu 12.10 (64bit) - after boot I get an orange screen (some errors that convinced me to reinstall 3 times).

  • installed Windows 7 - working (drivers installed from original website)

  • installed Linux Mint, Mate 64bit - after boot it hangs on some errors

Can anyone make a suggestion on what I should do to run Linux Mint on my computer ? Should I try installing the 32bit version ?

On top of that, the Mint version I installed on my pc does not start in a VirtualBox either.

Update: i've managed to run Linux Mint Mate 32bit in VirtualBox, but when trying to boot from flash the installer to install the same version on an extented partition i get a weird screen and hangs there.

I've seen this several times on server hardware. Try leaving single memory stick and then install. If it works, then you've found your problem. All DRAM modules should be exactly the same, same manufacturer, same model, and placed into slots according to motherboard specs.

I've already tried this, meaning that i removed the connection with the harddrive and booted the sistem installer on the flash drive, the sistem installer starts also with everything put at place, but with no visual driver avaiable – decebal Nov 13 '12 at 9:07
