This is ubuntu server 10.04 64 and samba 3.4.7
I have a shared directory /home/mit/share and another one /home/temp that I link into the shared one:
ln -s /home/temp /home/mit/share/temp
But on windows, after net use'ing I cannot open S:/temp, on linux it is possible to access /home/mit/share/temp like expected.
This works if I link directories inside /home/mit/share/temp, so I guess samba is restricting to jump with a link outside/above the shared directory. I thought I could override this restriction with
follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes
This is my smb.conf:
[global] workgroup = W11 security = SHARE passdb backend = smbpasswd:/etc/samba/smbpasswd unix password sync = no #username map = /etc/samba/user.map syslog = 0 log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 1000 dns proxy = No panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d encrypt passwords = true invalid users = root hosts allow = 10.1.1.0/24 [s] comment = S follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes path = /home/mit/share valid users = mit read only = no create mask = 0660
