I have a local network set up using a wireless tether through my android phone. Many computers connect to it and all i can see is there ip address/mac address. What i want to do is basically get a physical name of the computer or 'hack' (or ssh or something similar) into the computer using the ip address. Any suggestions?

Clarification: The Android device is showing the list you would like to manipulate? – Tim Jun 8 '12 at 17:45
Also you probably should list the method of how you are sharing the connection. – Tim Jun 8 '12 at 17:45
You need to tell us what operating systems you care about on these hosts, and for each OS, what specific physical name you're looking for... i.e. on Windows do you want the Netbios name? Understand that some of these OS may not announce sufficient information to know for sure (for instance, if you've got a linux host connected with no samba announcements) – Mike Pennington Jun 8 '12 at 18:16

@jonah I'm confused is this a question about doing something on android? or on the hosts? if so what OS are the hosts? – xenoterracide Jun 8 '12 at 18:48
Lacking more information, I'm going to close this – Michael Mrozek Jun 9 '12 at 3:52
