I am completely new to linux, and I'm trying to get in the world of command lines as it fancies my curiosity.

Anyhows, I've got a NAS and Optware installed. I was able to install irssi script (via root) though I'd wanted to use it/log in/connect on servers using non-root user. I couldn't figure how to access/run the script when I'm not logged in as root.

Are you able to log in as a non-root user (i. e. whoami shows something that is not root)? If so, execute whereis irssi from root (it will show the path to the binary) and call Irssi by this absolute path. Your non-root user should have a writeable home directory. – Mischa Arefiev Apr 9 '12 at 11:31
The commands doesn't exist on non root user. To clarify for all, I'm using MyBook World Edition, and follows instructions from here. I use SSH to login either as a myusername or root. I installed sudo and irssi via Optware as a root, but can't run both when I log in as myusername. – justbyanne Apr 11 '12 at 11:35
