I was planning to ask as similar question, but got directed here. My problem is corrupting partitions and drives, and Iall I have been using is ext4 and swap. Only gparted with gpart shows the correct partition layout, size, and contents, but it does not restore that structure. I don;t know what the best recovery tool would be.
Despite endless reinstalls, the problem gets to be more frequent, and I currently have all partitions saved one corrupted on 3 different PCs. Thats four 1TB drives and even more partitions, as well as different releases of Ubuntu. The only real other common elements are the Metacity interface and using ext4. Since it's drive corruption, ext4 is the more likely cause of the two. So I want off ext4 and see if that makes a difference. What would be my next best choice for maintaining data integrity?
