I'm trying to connect my Backtrack 5 system (Based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Linux kernel 2.6.38) to the internet using a USB wireless modem. It didn't detect the connection also it doesn't detect any other PPP link devices.

Too little information. Amongst other things, is the appropriate module(s) loaded? Is the device recognised? What output is there in the system logs (if any)? – Chris Down Nov 6 '11 at 15:12
It may be wise to update the kernel or ubuntu version. Check whether the network manager is installed. Try connecting the modem when the system boot up is completed & plz do add some more information or logs. Try adding output of the commands dmesg & lsusb – BluE Sky Nov 9 '11 at 6:23
