I flashed a WRT160NL wireless router with OpenWRT 10.03 and configured WEP encryption. I have two 8dbi omni antennas for it (it came with two 5dbi antennas).

However, the wireless signal on the same wireless channel with the same WEP when I use ones 8dbi antenna on a TL-WR543g and the default firmware. Why could this be? Is it an OpenWRT wireless driver bug?

Here are the bandwidth and net signal strength results of iwlist wlan0 price tagscan from two units measured from the same spot:

  • TL-WR543G: 16 Mbit max - "41 of 70" - X USD
  • WRT160NL: 10Mbit max - "28 of 70" - X*4 USD

1) Your question was a bit confusing. Was I correct in my clean up that you are comparing two different model AP's with different firmware? Did you compare the output of the original firmware on the WRT160NL? 2) Are you turning one unit off to make these tests? Only one unit should be on at a time to make a fair test. 3) What difference does the antenna swap make on the WRT160NL? Can you run the same test with the original antenna? –  Caleb Aug 22 '11 at 10:01
Also can you please ask a site moderator to merge your identities here? –  Caleb Aug 22 '11 at 10:03
