Reading that iwconfig is deprecated and should be replaced by iw, I was for the first time confronted with phy.

I understand that phy0 and so on represent physical devices, and perhaps iwphy # is equivalent (Found with iw dev wlan0 info).

In any case, I couldn't find out what these phys are used for. Moreover I don't quite understand the distinction for the iw command. Can someone help me out?
