I don't have experience with drivers and other things. After installing Linux Mint 11 on my machine (I did a dist-upgrade), everything seemed to be great -- I didn't need to install any drivers. After a while I realized that my connection would stop after a few minutes (it shows that I'm connected but I'm not), so I need to reconnect. After a few minutes, it disconnects again.

I'm using an Alfa USB wireless adapter AWS036H. I think the driver I'm using is Realtek

    Looks like you're using the rtl8187 driver included in the kernel. Looks like there's an rtl8187se driver in /staging that might work. Nov 21, 2011 at 2:21

I solved this problem by installing RTL8187L driver and loading it.

I used this tutorial (it is for RTL8187 and R8187): here
That tutorial is perfect, but I still have problems with the new driver.

I had this a similar thing happen to my Linksys wusb100v2 (driver rt2870sta from Ralink). At first, it would randomly drop packets, then later it started to time out while waiting for a DHCP lease, then it would just sit there while the USB port registered then unregistered the device a few seconds later ad infinitum.

I eventually got curious and opened up the case to find that one of the diodes on the PCB had melted into a tiny lump of solder. I had to buy a new one.

The warranty was already expired on mine, so I had no qualms about opening it, but if yours is still good, I'd take advantage of it and get it replaced.
